My Prenuvo Scan Experience
When cancer runs in your family, you don't think about your health the same way everyone else does. My mother has had breast cancer twice and her two sisters died from ovarian and colon cancer. I have Lynch Syndrome which makes you pre-disposed to a variety of cancers. FYI…I only found this out through genetic testing, so I will talk about that at a later time.
So…this is why I decided to have a Prenuvo whole-body MRI scan. FYI - I am NOT paid by Prenuvo, this is my unfiltered opinion.
I've learned that being proactive doesn't mean living in fear. It means gathering information, understanding my personal risk, and making thoughtful decisions about my health. For me, this knowledge brings peace of mind and I understand that this is not true for everyone.
Prenuvo is a radiation-free, whole-body MRI designed to look for certain abnormalities throughout the body. While it is not a replacement for recommended cancer screenings such as mammograms, colonoscopies, etc., I saw it as an additional layer of information that could potentially identify findings worth discussing with my physician. These scans can also detect completely benign abnormalities that may send you down an unnecessary & stressful rabbit hole - so you need to know this before you schedule.
The scan itself was surprisingly straightforward. I had mine done in downtown Chicago. The facility was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly. The price tag was not cheap - so I feel fortunate that I was able to do this for myself.
Prenuvo is non-invasive, there were no needles or radiation involved, and I simply laid still while the MRI images were taken. I watched a Netflix movie with headphones on because it is LOUD and the biggest inconvenience is that I had to take my gold Cartier bracelets off because you cannot have metal on during these scans (yes, first world problems).
I got my scan back within a week (you get the actual x-ray images to keep) and then reviewed it telephonically with a Nurse Practitioner. I will say for me the scheduling process for this call was a little unorganized - but when I had it I didn’t feel rushed.
Without getting too personal - everything I learned I expected to learn. I actually omitted some information on my intake form because I wanted to see if the scan picked it up and it did! I will say that after getting my scan results, it really did give me peace of mind. Again - I still may have health issues that the scan did not pick up, but I personally feel like I got a healthy report card and it made ME feel better.
Would I do it again? Probably…because for me my health is my greatest investment. If I don’t prioritize that first, nothing else in my life will be in order and order is my middle name, lol.
